ELM GROVE — State Superintendent Dr. Jill Underly today announced Allison Urban as the final 2026-27 Teacher of the Year. The announcement was made as part of a schoolwide surprise celebration at Pilgrim Park Middle School (School District of Elmbrook). The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, in partnership with Herb Kohl Philanthropies, selects five Teachers of the Year annually to represent elementary schools, middle schools, high schools and special services.
“Ms. Urban is deeply committed to creating an inclusive environment where all students can thrive and have a sense of belonging,” Dr. Underly said. “Not only does she make an impact on students, but she is a dedicated mentor to her colleagues. Students, teachers, and staff are lucky to have a leader like her at Pilgrim Park Middle School.”
Urban, a special education teacher, is recognized for creating accessible, engaging instruction that empowers every student to succeed and build confidence. A respected leader in her school, she regularly co-teaches and works with colleagues to ensure they learn skills to successfully support all students. Urban also developed a student-led community service initiative that challenges students to identify a local need and design and implement a project to address it. The experience proved transformative for the students while also making a difference in the community.
Photos from the celebration will be available on Dr. Underly’s official Facebook page.
As part of the recognition, Urban will receive a $3,000 award from Herb Kohl Philanthropies. Additional information about the Teacher of the Year program can be found on the Wisconsin DPI website.
