MADISON, WI – Today, the State Building Commission met to vote on several items, including Non-State Grant funding recommendations. Representative Billings (D-La Crosse), the Chair of the Commission’s Higher Education Subcommittee and a member of the State Building Commission, released the following statement in response to today’s vote:

“Today, my colleagues and I voted to approve $50 million through the Non-State Grant program, funding 71 different projects spanning across our state. I was overjoyed to vote in favor of $1.5 million in funding for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater La Crosse, which enables the Terry Erickson Boys & Girls Club in La Crosse to add a Workforce Readiness Center to their facility. This new center will offer career guidance and mentorship, workforce training, and hands-on career exploration opportunities for La Crosse’s young people. I am ecstatic about the opportunities this new Workforce Readiness Center will bring to our district, and I am grateful to the Boys & Girls Clubs for all the impactful work they continue to do for our community.

“I was also glad to vote in favor of approving $925,000 to Scenic Bluffs Community Health Centers. This community service hub increases access to healthcare, and this new funding will allow them to renovate their clinical spaces, upgrade their infrastructure, and increase their service capacity to better serve a greater number of area residents. I am pleased that we were able to secure nearly a million dollars to support Scenic Bluffs Community Health’s mission, and I wish them all the best as they continue to serve the 95th Assembly District and its residents.”
