Black River, WI — Former Ho-Chunk Nation Legislator and community leader Rodney Rave came to the difficult decision to suspend his campaign for Congress. In a statement made today, Rave said the following:

“After much thought and consideration, I have decided to suspend my campaign for Congress. I know many had their hopes for me to represent them with common sense and a native perspective that only I had.

Of the three candidates in this race, I feel one of them is wrong for the Third District of Wisconsin and wrong for the country. If I stayed in the race, I think it would hand her the seat.

My whole reason for entering the race was for the benefit of the Third District so this decision is what I can do personally for the district, and the country. The cool people will understand my reasoning: “the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few or the one.”

I will be supporting Emily Berge from here all the way through November, where she will take this seat from Van Orden. I humbly ask the folks out there who were helping and supporting me to support and vote for Emily on August 11th and again on November 3rd.

I had many meetings with her and we share many good values, she works hard and has the people’s needs at the top of her priorities. This isn’t a Democratic or Republican issue, I was working with both parties and had supporters across the political spectrum, this is about representation and we currently don’t have it. We need to come together to send a message to Washington that we have had enough of what has become the norm, politicians answering to money rather than the people.

Enough with the Cookie Cutter politicians who aren’t there for us, but instead to make the corporations and themselves rich.

I would like to thank everyone who supported me and contributed to the campaign, it kept me in it for seven months, and I will always be grateful for the support, the conversations, and the people I met along the way. Thank you all. Go Emily!
