Madison, WI – Last night, a bill to utilize $1.8 billion of projected surplus revenue failed to pass the State Senate. Representative Cindi Duchow (R-Delafield) issued the following statement upon the conclusion of the Senate’s floor session:
“I am extremely disappointed that politics got in the way of good policy,” said Rep. Duchow. “This bill would have ended the tax on cash tips and overtime, given schools $300 million in additional special education funding, provided $350 million in property tax relief, and given income tax payers $600/$300 as a rebate check. Despite twelve hours of negotiations and an amendment, we were unable to secure two additional Senators to support the bill.”
