Madison… Senator Cory Tomczyk (R-Mosinee) released the following statement regarding the May 2026 Special Session Senate Bill 1:

“Since the first time the caucus discussed what to do, if anything, with the state’s surplus, my stance has been that it should go BACK to the people that were overcharged – Wisconsin taxpayers. That is still my stance today.

“I was supportive of $1,000 for joint filers and $500 for individuals. The compromise at $600 and $300 is acceptable, and I was happy to vote for it and the tax cuts in the bill on the floor yesterday. In divided government, neither side is going to be completely satisfied with the end result.

“I know that not everyone on my side of the aisle is happy with this deal, and ultimately, the bill failed. I am confident that I made the right decision and voted ‘Yes’ on this bill to send money back to the taxpayers and cut their taxes rather than leaving it sitting in Madison. Unfortunately, that is what happened, and Republicans will come together in the next budget to decide how to move forward.”
