Madison– Senate Democrats are going out of their way to oppose measures that would provide relief to Wisconsin taxpayers. Assembly Republicans voted to return $1.8 billion to Wisconsin taxpayers. Assembly Republicans are delivering for Wisconsinites. In a show of complete insanity, Senate Democrats refused to work with Legislative Republicans and their own Democratic Governor to return this surplus to hard working taxpayers. They were too focused on the possibility of gaining a majority next year, allowing their political fantasies to get in the way of good policy.
In what became a punishment for Wisconsinites, Democratic leadership took it upon themselves to raise property taxes on hardworking homeowners for the next 400 YEARS. To counter this act of hubris, Republicans voted to release $870 million in tax relief through rebate checks. Later this year, Wisconsin taxpayers should have received those checks in their mailboxes. Yet, thanks to partisan game-playing, taxpayers will not receive the tax relief they deserve.
After years of promising to eliminate state income taxes on tips and overtime pay, the outgoing Democratic administration finally listened to what Republicans have been saying all along: that the most productive members of society deserve much needed tax relief. Democratic Senators, however, decided to stand in the way of the hardest-working members of society, depriving them of the much-needed relief they deserved.
Wisconsin Democrats can claim to stand with working families, but Republicans have continued working to deliver practical, responsible solutions that lower costs, protect taxpayers, and expand opportunities for all Wisconsinites. As sitting Democratic Senators called for refusing not to work with their own “lame-duck politician” and claimed this deal was the “height of fiscal irresponsibility”, they showed that providing funds for special education in schools is something they cannot support.
This deal was not perfect, but it was by far the best way to keep as much money in your pocket as possible under a Democratic administration. This exact scenario demonstrates why Conservative leadership is so important if you want lasting tax relief. Republicans are ensuring Wisconsin’s surplus goes back to those who truly need it: Wisconsin taxpayers and their children, and not to Democratic policies that waste YOUR money. At the end of the day, Wisconsinites know how to spend their own money better than politicians do.
