Republican candidates in four statewide races will be unopposed for the party’s endorsement at this weekend’s convention.
The party said Tiffany was the only candidate to meet its prerequisites to be considered for its backing in the governor’s race. The same goes for top candidates in other races: Fond du Lac County DA Eric Toney for AG; Treasurer John Lieber as he seeks a second four-year term; and Watertown farmer and small businessman Nate Pollnow in his bid for secretary of state.
In the lieutenant governor’s race, Racine businessman Will Martin will square off with former Lancaster Mayor David Varnam for the party’s endorsement.
John Totz and Cyril Sablich have also filed to run for lieutenant governor as Republicans.

The party set benchmarks that candidates had to reach by March 31 in order to be considered for the endorsement.
The fundraising targets were:
- Governor: $100,000 from at least 1,000 separate contributors.
- Lieutenant governor and AG: $50,000 from at least 300 contributors.
- Secretary of state and treasurer: at least $10,000 from 100 contributors.
For all offices, no funds from personal loans, the candidate, the candidate’s family or a PAC could count toward the totals.
Candidates also had: to file all necessary paperwork to run; be a member of good standing with their local Republican Party; have an established campaign plan, including a strategy to win the general election; and sign a copy of the state and national party platforms stating they are “in general agreement with the principles of the Republican Party.”
Brayden Myer, a small business owner from Manitowoc who’s running for secretary of state, said this week he provided proof he had met all the criteria during an interview with the WisGOP executive committee, but was deemed “not viable” and therefore ineligible for the endorsement. He said the party had yet to explain how he failed to meet the benchmarks.
