MADISON — Representative Todd Novak (R-Dodgeville) joined several Republican legislators in sending a letter to Governor Tony Evers encouraging continued bipartisan negotiations focused on returning Wisconsin’s budget surplus to taxpayers and advancing reforms to help lower costs for working families.
The letter follows last week’s failed special session legislation, which was the product of months of negotiations between Governor Evers and Republican legislative leadership.
Representative Novak said the bipartisan agreement reflected the kind of practical governing Wisconsinites expect from their elected officials.
“People are tired of political fights getting in the way of getting things done,” said Rep. Novak. “The bipartisan agreement negotiated between Governor Evers and legislative Republicans would’ve provided meaningful tax relief, property tax relief, additional support for schools, and reforms to help families dealing with higher everyday costs. Those are issues that matter to people back home, and they’re worth continuing to work on.”
In the letter, lawmakers thanked Governor Evers for engaging in productive discussions throughout the spring and encouraged him to call the Legislature back into Special Session to continue work on the bipartisan reforms that had been negotiated.
“We still have an opportunity to come together and do something positive for Wisconsin families,” Novak added. “Our work doesn’t end because one bill failed. I remain committed to finding common ground and delivering results for the people I represent.”
