EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — 6/8/2026 — More than 680 of Wisconsin’s top high school students are participating in Badger Boys State next week, one of the nation’s premier youth leadership and government education programs. Sponsored by the Wisconsin American Legion, the week-long program provides young men entering their senior year of high school with an immersive experience in citizenship, leadership, and public service.
Held annually on the campus of the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire, Badger Boys State places participants in a functioning model government where they learn firsthand how local, county, and state governments operate. Citizens campaign for office, vote in elections, serve in legislative and executive roles, participate in judicial proceedings, and engage in public policy discussions that mirror real-world government processes.
Throughout the week, participants attend educational seminars, leadership development programs, and academic courses through Badger Boys State University. They also hear from elected officials, military leaders, educators, business professionals, and civic leaders from across Wisconsin.
Since its founding in 1939, Badger Boys State has helped shape generations of Wisconsin leaders. Alumni include elected officials, judges, military officers, business executives, educators, and community leaders who credit the program with helping develop their leadership abilities and civic engagement.
The program emphasizes:
- Leadership development
- Civic education and constitutional understanding
- Public speaking and communication skills
- Community service and citizenship
- Collaboration and problem-solving
Badger Boys State remains one of the largest and most respected Boys State programs in the nation, offering students a unique opportunity to experience government in action while building friendships and leadership skills that last a lifetime.
