Monroe, Wis. – Josh Mittness, candidate for Wisconsin’s 50th Assembly District, has officially qualified for the August 11, 2026, primary election ballot after submitting more than the required number of verified nomination signatures.
Outside of the Tommy G. Thompson Center in Madison, Mittness reflected on the progress he’s made in the race so far, “I’m so grateful to everyone who has supported me up to this point, from those who signed my nomination forms to those volunteering and providing grassroots funding for this campaign. This is such an important milestone, but the real work of getting supporters out to vote starts now. We need them to show up in August!”
Mittness, a Democrat, declared his candidacy back in November 2025, months before other candidates entered the race. As a working father with limited free time, he felt it was important to begin early so that he could spend as much time as possible meeting voters, listening to their concerns, and earning their trust.
The Friends of Josh Mittness campaign committee has shown skill at operating efficiently on a shoestring budget. “We’re truly running a campaign that represents the experience of working families in Wisconsin,” says Mittness. “Everyone who’s been directly involved has done so in addition to working regular jobs, going to school and meeting everyday family commitments. I knock on voters’ doors on weekends, and our team meets in the evenings around kids’ school schedules and bedtime routines. But these are exactly the pieces of life I’m fighting to protect and prioritize once I’m seated in the Legislature.”
Despite these challenges, Mittness’s candidacy has resonated with many in Southern Wisconsin. He has a very strong following on social media, including over 1,000 followers on the “Josh Mittness for Wisconsin State Assembly” Facebook page. He’s also received several notable endorsements, including a rare nod from former United States Senator Russ Feingold, who stated, “Proud to endorse my fellow Janesville native, Josh Mittness, for Assembly. He will be a great progressive voice for Southern Wisconsin in his family’s tradition.”
Along with Feingold’s first public endorsement in six years, Mittness’s other notable endorsements include retired radio announcer and current podcast host John ‘Sly’ Sylvester, Green County Board Supervisors Franz Varga and Nicole Wilcox, and former Assistant City of Monroe Administrator Sam Liebert.
Josh resides in rural Monroe with his fiancé, their children, and a lively household of pets. Outside of family, work and campaigning, he enjoys playing guitar and perfecting his ever-expanding catalog of legendary dad jokes.
