Representative Udell Condemns Senate Inaction on Slush Fund

MADISON, Wis. — Last week, Senate Republicans struck down multiple amendments introduced by Democrats to prevent Trump’s $1.8 billion “Anti-Weaponization” fund, which could be paid to individuals under federal investigation or convicted in the January 6th Capitol riots. On the same day, Senate Republicans passed another $70 billion in ICE funding.

Representative Randy Udell (D-47th District) released the following statement:

“Senate Republicans have betrayed Americans again, twice. They refused to block a flagrantly illegal slush fund that was negotiated between Trump’s personal lawyers and Trump’s former personal lawyer, now the Attorney General. If the Department of Justice follows through on this deal, $1.8 billion taxpayer dollars will be transferred directly from United States coffers to political loyalists.

“Furthermore, it is despicable to authorize another $70 billion taxpayer dollars to an agency that has proven it will kill American citizens. Citizens should not be forced to finance an active threat against them.

“This past month, I cosponsored a bill proposal to impose a 100% tax on any slush funds given to insurrectionists. I also cosponsored the “No Secret Police” proposal this session, alongside other restrictions to ICE’s illegal actions from the state level. I promise to keep fighting for transparency, accountability, and responsibility in the use of your taxpayer dollars.”
