MADISON, Wis. — As Republican attorneys general from across the country take their baseless attacks on abortion care to a new extreme, it raises serious concerns about Fond Du Lac County District Attorney and GOP candidate for attorney general Eric Toney’s own anti-abortion extremism.

letter filed last week by several GOP attorneys general seeks to reclassify Mifepristone, the long-time safely used and FDA approved medication for abortion and miscarriage care. Republican state legislators in Wisconsin have led similar efforts as recently as 2025.

A Better Wisconsin Together Communications Director Lucy Ripp says these coinciding attacks raise serious questions about Toney’s own anti-abortion agenda, and how that could impact Wisconsinites if implemented in a statewide office.

“Eric Toney is an extreme MAGA politician who is wildly out of touch with the views of Wisconsinites, especially on abortion,” said Ripp. “His record in office, endorsements, and past public statements prove it.”

During his failed run for Attorney General in 2022, Toney not only voiced support for an archaic 1800s abortion ban with no exceptions for rape or incest, he also indicated he would push to change state law to allow local district attorneys to cross county lines to prosecute abortion cases outside of their own jurisdiction.

In fact, Toney’s extremism on abortion is so radical that it has earned him past endorsements from Wisconsin’s most fringe anti-abortion groups, with both Wisconsin Family Action and Wisconsin Right to Life endorsing Toney in past races.

Wisconsin Right to Life’s agenda includes banning abortion and the group also takes credit for bringing about some of the most restrictive anti-abortion laws in the nation.

“Eric Toney is the same guy, offering the same right-wing ideas who was rejected by the voters of Wisconsin four years ago,” said Ripp. “Wisconsinites have been clear, they expect their elected officials to respect and protect their rights and freedoms, not take them away.”
