MADISON, Wis. — Today, Senator Jeff Smith joined Representative Christian Phelps to discuss how Congressman Tom Tiffany has made life more expensive for working Wisconsinites. Under the MAGA policies Congressman Tiffany has rubber-stamped, inflation has skyrocketed, gas prices have risen and utility costs are out of control. Truckers, farmers, seniors and working folks are struggling to keep up with everyday costs as Tiffany’s policies continue to cause chaos and raise prices.

Watch the press conference here and see what the speakers had to say below:

State Sen. Jeff Smith: “Just the other week, Congressman Tom Tiffany accompanied Donald Trump as he came to a farm right out here in Western Wisconsin to talk about how ‘great’ their policies are for Wisconsin. But Wisconsinites know the reality. DC politicians like Tom Tiffany who support MAGA policies that drive up inflation and gas prices are making life more expensive for everyone. A new report came out just the other week that said inflation has hit a 3-year high. That means working Wisconsinites are working just as hard for dollars that don’t go as far. The same paycheck 2 years ago covers less, which means folks can’t provide for themselves or their families the same as they were able to before. It also means that businesses have higher input costs and have to raise prices on consumers to make up that difference. It means that it’s more expensive for farmers to plant crops. And with tariff taxes cutting profits, it means they don’t make as much when they sell.”

State Rep. Christian Phelps: “One of the things I hear a lot about is utility bills. Folks are telling me that they are using the same amount of electricity, but their bills are going up anyway. Some are even cutting back, turning lights off more often and doing what they can to cut down on those costs in their own home, but the bills keep getting higher. And that is not their fault. It’s not the fault of people here in the Chippewa Valley. Out in DC, Congressman Tom Tiffany voted for MAGA policies that have increased costs for the average American family by nearly $181 on utility bills in 2025. A decade ago when he was in the state legislature and on the Joint Finance Committee, Tom Tiffany voted to gut the consumer watchdog that protects the public from utility company rate hikes. […] Tiffany was completely willing to let utility companies go unchecked and let them raise rates on working Wisconsinites over and over again.”
