MADISON, Wis. — Recent reporting from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reveals that Congressman Tom Tiffany is rated one of the most conservative Wisconsin House members in modern history. Tiffany is surpassed historically only by a slightly more extreme House member, Mark Neumann, who mounted a failed 2010 bid for governor — a result that will soon be repeated.

“Congressman Tom Tiffany is so extreme he’s even further to the right than almost any House member in modern history and as governor, he would enthusiastically enact dangerous policies like abortion bans, more cuts to healthcare and education and fully comply with Donald Trump’s election denialism,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin spokesperson Emily Stuckey. “Tom Tiffany can’t run from his extreme, unpopular record — and Wisconsin voters will reject him for it in November.”

Congressman Tiffany is facing a tough environment in a deeply purple state for his unpopular politics. Republicans are facing a bigger challenge than Democrats in Wisconsin with polling showing them deeply underwater with the coveted independent vote. This story goes on to ask an important question: “Can Tiffany compete for these [independent] voters as a candidate of the right in a year when his party is facing big headwinds?”
