MADISON, Wis. — Yesterday, on the 4th anniversary of the Dobbs Decision that took away women’s abortion rights, new reporting revealed that 53rd Assembly GOP candidate David Daniels endorsed a total abortion ban. Daniels is running in one of the most likely Republican-held seats that could flip to the Democrats. The previous incumbent, Dean Kaufert retired soon after liberal Supreme Court justice Chris Taylor defeated conservative Maria Lazar by over 20%.
While Daniels is hoping to join other Republicans like Pat Snyder who fought to reinstitute Wisconsin’s 1849 abortion ban, Democrats are pledging that, if given the opportunity, they will get this archaic law off of Wisconsin’s books and enshrine the right to an abortion in our state.
“Republicans can’t hide their true goals—which is to further restrict abortion in Wisconsin by dragging us back almost 200 years,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin spokesperson Rachel La Due. “Republican politicians think they deserve to sit in a doctor’s office and be part of a decision that should only exist between a woman and her doctor—it’s creepy and should give every voter pause about who these men running for office really are.”
