West Allis, WI – State Assembly Candidate AmyRose Murphy is voicing support for the West Allis Police and Fire Commission’s recent decision to allow local police to continue assisting in federal immigration enforcement efforts.
“This decision will strengthen the partnership between law enforcement agencies, make processes more efficient, and empower local police to remove hardened criminals from our streets,” Murphy said.
“Local law enforcement professionals have dangerous jobs and deserve our support. Unfortunately, my opponent is insulting them, misleading the public, and spreading fear instead. This policy isn’t about targeting people who contact the police for help or cooperate with investigations. This is about allowing our local police to do their job and arrest dangerous criminals. West Allis deserves a representative who will make public safety a priority, not protect criminals in pursuit of a national political agenda.”
Murphy’s opponent, Rep. Angelito Tenorio (D-14), participated in an “ICE OUT” protest last Thursday, where he called law enforcement officers “armed thugs” and falsely claimed that residents contacting the local police department for assistance would “trigger a pipeline to an immigration detention center.”
Murphy criticized Tenorio’s comments as dangerous and misleading.
“My opponent and the anti-police radicals are spreading lies and fear because they’re determined to put criminals first. The West Allis Police Department does not make random stops or harass members of the public. In fact, allowing them to continue arresting these dangerous, violent criminals on an individual basis will make immigration raids and other major federal operations unnecessary and less likely to occur in our community.”
The West Allis Police and Fire Commission rejected a proposal supported by Tenorio and other left-wing activists at their June 18 meeting, which would have barred the West Allis Police Department from assisting Immigration and Customs Enforcement with the execution of administrative warrants.
Murphy, a legislative aide and West Allis resident, is the Republican candidate for State Assembly in the 14th district, and will face Tenorio in the general election on November 3. The 14th Assembly District includes most of the City of West Allis, far southern portions of the City of Wauwatosa, and western portions of the City of Milwaukee.
