MADISON, Wis. — Today, Secretary of State Sarah Godlewski joined State Senator Melissa Ratcliff and Representative Mike Bare to discuss how Congressman Tom Tiffany has made life unbearably expensive for working Wisconsinites. Under the MAGA policies Congressman Tiffany has rubber-stamped like the Big Ugly Bill, inflation has skyrocketed, Wisconsinites’ budgets are tighter and healthcare costs are out of control. Families, seniors and working folks are struggling to keep up with everyday costs as Tiffany’s policies continue to cause chaos and raise prices.

Secretary of State Sarah Godlewski: “I recently actually spoke to a family in the Chippewa Valley. This is where I grew up, and this family was sharing with me that their healthcare premium went from $700 a month to $2,700 a month. Imagine the conversations [at] that kitchen table as they’re trying to make decisions on: Do they get new tires? Do they try to sell their home? Or, even worse, do they just all together say I can’t afford health care and don’t see a doctor? And people shouldn’t have to be faced with these decisions, but we know this family in Western Wisconsin isn’t just an exception. I was recently talking to a working mom in the Coulee region, who was, she’s a home healthcare worker, and she was sharing with me that she’s literally one expense from having nothing. And again, it’s not because she’s not working hard — it’s because she’s just seen an increase in costs across the board that are causing her to go broke. And what makes me so frustrated is this isn’t just some sort of personal failure — these are policy failures — and it doesn’t have to be this way. Yet instead of making life more affordable, Washington politicians like Tom Tiffany have decided to make this — create this — situation.”
State Senator Melissa Ratcliff: “All around my district, people have been telling me the same things, that costs are too high: healthcare costs, childcare, gas prices, food — it’s all too high. Everything feels more expensive these days — because it is. And that is because of the MAGA policies supported by Congressman Tom Tiffany. People are exhausted trying to keep up with the price of everything […] Families are working hard to make ends meet, and should be enjoying their summer, making memories. Instead, this weekend’s celebration will be overshadowed by stresses and worries that Congressman Tom Tiffany refuses to address, and only makes worse with his policies. Wisconsin families deserve better, and they deserve better than that for our next governor.”
Assembly Representative Mike Bare: “[A] new report came out just the other week that said inflation has hit a three year high. […] This is Tom Tiffany’s fault, MAGA’s fault, Donald Trump’s fault. That means working Wisconsinites are working just as hard for dollars that don’t go as far as they used to. The same paycheck two years ago covers less now, which means people can’t provide for themselves, can’t provide for their families the same as they did just a couple years ago. Folks have felt that squeeze for a while now, and they’re feeling it more and more. Prices are going up, just like the temperatures outside, and we’re certainly feeling it, but that didn’t stop Tom Tiffany from voting for massive tax cuts for the very wealthiest in the Big, Beautiful, Ugly Bill. It didn’t stop him from cutting things that people count on, that thousands of Wisconsinites count on, like food access, food assistance, healthcare, which has potentially strained budgets even further. Tom Tiffany’s only solution for hunger is to jar some pickles. That’s not a good solution, that’s not going to work for everyone.”
