MADISON, Wis. — While Wisconsinites took the July 4th, 250th Anniversary of America weekend to celebrate what unites us, Derrick Van Orden spent the weekend posting a number of tweets one might expect to find on a 4chan chat, not a sitting Congressman’s campaign page.
“Credit to Derrick Van Orden—he’s not even pretending to be reasonable or patriotic anymore, and instead celebrates America’s 250th anniversary by showing us just how unstable and unqualified he is to represent Wisconsin’s third congressional district,” said WisDems spokesperson Haley King. “Derrick Van Orden is making clear he can’t win re-election so he’s auditioning for his next grift while enjoying his last six months living off a taxpayer-funded salary.”
Many of Van Orden’s posts tried to sell the fallacy that the far-right Patriot Front group, whose founder was at the group’s rally in DC this past weekend, is some sort of communist front. Van Orden even went so far as to say that a Black woman riding the subway, surrounded by Patriot Front members, was a member of the Southern Poverty Law Center going to work. Even by Van Orden’s conspiracy theory standards, this is insane.
