RAYMOND, Wis. — Today, Mitchell Berman, ER nurse and Democratic candidate for Wisconsin’s First Congressional District, launched his first districtwide ad with an opening message focused on fighting for working families and holding Congressman Bryan Steil accountable for his votes to cut healthcare.

The 30-second spot launches as part of an ad buy across streaming and digital platforms and marks the first ad of the election cycle in WI-01, a district that will be key to control of the House majority this November.

In the ad, Berman says: “I’m Mitchell Berman. I grew up in rural Wisconsin. I worked my way through college and became a nurse, taking care of patients, including veterans at the VA. As a dad, I know families are struggling with higher costs and healthcare they can’t afford, but Bryan Steil voted to give tax breaks to the rich, and stripped healthcare away from millions of Americans. He spent his career serving the elite. I’ve spent mine helping people. Congress needs a new generation of leaders who work for the people — not for billionaires.”

WI-01 is a top Democratic pickup opportunity in 2026. Redistricting in 2022 made the seat more competitive, and Democrats have carried it in recent statewide races, including with a double-digit margin in the Wisconsin Supreme Court election earlier this year. With control of the House likely to be decided on the margins, national forecasters have placed WI-01 at the center of the battlefield.

In his campaign for Congress, Berman has focused on lowering healthcare costs, taking on corporate power, and holding career politicians like Steil accountable. He launched his campaign nearly a year ago, and since then has held events across the First District — house parties, meet and greets, and campaign stops at local businesses and union halls. The issues he has heard most from voters are the rising cost of healthcare, the unsustainable cost of living, and frustration with a Congress that places the interests of billionaires and corporations ahead of working people. Berman has centered his campaign on those issues.
