RE: Ahead of Vance’s travel to Wisconsin: The Trump-Vance agenda has devastated Wisconsin families and farmers

Tomorrow, JD Vance will travel to Wisconsin to peddle his and Donald Trump’s failed agenda that has made life unbearable and more expensive for families and farmers. Wisconsin families and farmers are struggling to get by amid high prices and job cuts as Trump and Vance make historic cuts to healthcare and food assistance, and their unpopular war of choice with Iran has skyrocketed the costs of gas, diesel, and fertilizer.

Trump and Vance have tanked the economy, meaning higher prices and job cuts for Wisconsinites

  • Wisconsin’s unemployment rate has shot up under Trump and Vance, and since last May, Wisconsin has lost 3,700 manufacturing jobs.
  • Prices remain stubbornly high for Wisconsinites as inflation in May hit its highest point in years.
  • The average Wisconsin family has shelled out over $3,000 since January 2025 because of Trump’s inflation, caused in large part by his reckless tariffs.
    • That includes $713 more on housing costs and $310 more for groceries.

Even before Trump and Vance started their war with Iran, Wisconsin farmers were already struggling

  • Wisconsin farmers were already facing historic highs for fertilizer costs from Trump’s tariffs, eroding their profits and preventing them from building up a stockpile of fertilizer.
    • On top of that, 48% of farmers in the Midwest said they could not afford all needed supplies, and nearly one in three said they were entering the season without securing all of their fertilizer needs.
  • Trump’s unhinged trade war locked farmers out of their markets completely, causing family farms to go bankrupt at the highest rate in six years in April, alongside record-high farm debt.
    • A staggering 16 family farms in Wisconsin filed for bankruptcy in Trump and Vance’s first year, up 700% from the previous year.
  • Because of Trump and Vance’s war with Iran, the United States Department of Agriculture forecasts that food prices will increase 3.4% in 2026, far higher than the 2.9% they estimated in April.

Trump and Vance’s historic cuts stripped Wisconsinites of healthcare and food assistance programs they depend on

  • In order to pay for the top 0.1%  receiving a tax break of nearly $200,000, Trump and Vance’s massive cuts to Medicaid, and Republicans’ refusal to extend the ACA tax credits, 110,000 Wisconsinites could become uninsured.
    • Already, more than 45,000 Wisconsinites have dropped ACA coverage.
    • Monthly premiums for some Wisconsinites have increased by 192%, or $853.
    • Now, Trump and Vance want Americans to take out loans for medical bills they can’t pay after they made healthcare even more expensive for tens of millions of Americans.
  • 14 of Wisconsin’s rural hospitals are at risk of closing, and six are at immediate risk of closing because of cuts to healthcare in Trump and Vance’s “One, Big Beautiful” Bill.
  • SNAP participation in Wisconsin has already fallen by 22,500 people and is expected to worsen because of cuts in Trump and Vance’s “One, Big Beautiful” Bill.
