Dem Mitchell Berman says in his first ad in the race to flip Wisconsin’s 1st CD that he’ll “work for Wisconsin.”
Berman’s campaign told WisPolitics the six-figure ad buy will run on streaming and digital platforms across the district through the Aug. 11 primary.
Berman, an emergency room nurse from Franklin, is up against three other Democratic challengers on Aug. 11: Whitewater Unified School District Board Vice President Miguel Aranda, Milwaukee Alderman Peter Burgelis and Lorenzo Santos, a former Racine emergency services director. The winner of the primary will go on to face U.S. Rep. Bryan Steil, R-Janesville.
The 30-second spot opens with Berman on screen introducing himself, followed by pictures from his childhood in rural Wisconsin. The ad goes on to mention Berman’s background as a nurse working with veterans and his role as a father.

Berman says he “knows families are struggling with higher costs and healthcare they can’t afford.” He’s later pictured shaking hands with veterans in a medical exam room, hugging his children, working on a tractor, and at a bar with a beer in hand talking to other patrons.
The ad goes on to say that Steil “voted to give tax breaks to the rich” and “stripped healthcare” from Americans.
“He’s spent his career serving the elite, I’ve spent mine helping people. Congress needs a new generation of leaders who work for the people, not for billionaires,” Berman says in the ad.
