MADISON, Wis. — Today, the Wisconsin Joint Legislative Council elected the members that will be part of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Health Care Study Committee. The scope of the committee includes the use of AI in the patient-provider relationship and the use of AI in interactions between insurers and patients. The goal of the committee is to address AI standards in the healthcare industry and ensure patient safety. State Senator Rachael Cabral-Guevara (R-Fox Crossing) and Representative Adam Neylon (R-Pewaukee) released the following statement.
“Artificial intelligence is transforming healthcare, and the choices we make today will shape patient care for years to come. Our responsibility is clear: protect patients, build public trust, and ensure AI is used safely, transparently, and responsibly,” said Rep. Neylon. “I am honored to serve on this committee and help develop practical standards that keep Wisconsin at the forefront of healthcare innovation.”
The committee will be comprised of twelve members of the general public and four legislators. These public members have diverse backgrounds in healthcare, artificial intelligence, patient advocacy, hospital administration, and insurance.
“Artificial intelligence is changing industries across the country. Healthcare is no different,” said Sen. Cabral-Guevara. “Whether AI is assisting with diagnoses, assisting with patient-provider communication, or helping read X-Rays and MRIs, it’s already here. Now, we are bringing together a group of experts to ensure it is done in a safe manner with the patient at the center of our focus.”
“I am glad to see so many uniquely qualified members on this committee,” said Senator Cabral-Guevara. “We are tackling a very complex topic, so having AI experts, health administrators, doctors, nurses, and more will ensure committee decisions are made critically and with diverse perspectives.”
