LA CROSSE, WI – Today, Senator Brad Pfaff (D-Onalaska) sent a letter to US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Lee Zeldin denouncing the agency’s recent approvals of new agricultural pesticides containing intentionally added per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), including trifludimoxazindiflufenican, and epyrifenacil.

The letter can be viewed here. A short excerpt follows:

“For years, the families in my district—most notably in the Village of French Island—have lived in a state of ongoing crisis. Because of severe groundwater contamination, hundreds of my constituents cannot turn on their kitchen taps to pour a safe glass of water. We are currently undertaking a massive, multi-million-dollar infrastructure project to build a brand-new municipal water utility entirely from scratch just to secure PFAS-free drinking water.

It is shocking that while local taxpayers, state trust funds, and federal agencies are spending millions of dollars to filter these toxic compounds out of our drinking water, the EPA’s Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention is actively permitting chemical manufacturers to spray them directly onto our food crops.”
