Superior, WI — Congressional candidate Niina Baum will complete her 400 Miles for WI-07 bike tour Friday July 17th, arriving in Superior at approximately 4:00 PM at Wisconsin State Historical Marker 205 — the S.S. Meteor, Last of the Whalebacks.
Baum departed Rhinelander on July 8th and rode more than 400 miles over nine days through Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District, stopping in communities across northern Wisconsin to meet directly with residents, organizations, and businesses about the issues facing the district.
“This tour was about really connecting with people and the communities,” said Baum. “You cannot represent a place you do not know. And even though I am the only candidate who has spent nearly the entirety of their life here, and feel I know this place better than my opponents, I wanted to show just how much this district means to me.”
Notable stops along the route included the UW-Trout Lake Station, where Baum learned about freshwater research and its implications for Wisconsin’s natural resources; the Fifield 150th anniversary parade and community celebration; the Birkie Foundation in Hayward, discussing the economic and community impact of outdoor recreation infrastructure; Bretting Manufacturing Company, highlighting the importance of Wisconsin’s manufacturing sector; Trails North ATV Club, underscoring the role of motorized recreation in the northern Wisconsin economy; the Flambeau River YMCA, discussing childcare access and workforce challenges in rural communities; and the Lumberjack World Championships in Hayward, celebrating the logging heritage that built much of northern Wisconsin.
Baum’s campaign is funded entirely without corporate PAC money. Baum has spent under $20,000 on her entire campaign while her opponents have millions behind them.
“Running for office shouldn’t be about who can afford to run the biggest and most expensive ad campaign,” said Baum. “It should be about how you will represent the people in the district, your knowledge and passion for the area, and your dedication to doing what is right. This bike tour is what dedication to this district actually looks like.”
Baum is running in the August 11th Republican primary for Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District. She was the first candidate in the district to secure ballot access and has pledged to accept no corporate PAC money.
