Madison, WI – Today, Dina Nina Martinez-Rutherford’s campaign for State Assembly highlighted growing support from labor unions ahead of the August 11th Democratic Primary.

Since launching her campaign in September, Martinez-Rutherford has been endorsed by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 159, the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT) District Council 7, the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Local 311, and the Association of Professional Flight Attendants.

“I am proud to be the union candidate in this race. From repealing Act 10 and restoring collective bargaining rights to raising our wages and keeping workers safe, we need a legislator who is ready to fight like hell and deliver on Day 1,” said Martinez-Rutherford.

“I know what it feels like to show up every day for wages and benefits that don’t come close to covering what life actually costs, with no real power to do anything about it. But as a former union member, I know how life-changing it can be to have a union fighting for you in the workplace. My fight for working people isn’t political. It’s personal.”

Dina Nina has also been endorsed by more than 65 current and former elected officials and over six dozen community leaders. She has received support from progressive organizations including Fair Wisconsin PAC, the Wisconsin Muslim Civic Alliance, Advocates for Trans Equality, Freedom from Religion Action Fund, the Center for Freethought Equality, LGBTQ+ Victory Fund, and Families United for Trans Rights.

A food service worker, small business owner, and current Madison alder, Martinez-Rutherford is running on a platform of bold, progressive change – a higher minimum wage, lower property taxes, fully funded public schools, universal healthcare and childcare, and housing as a right. Her grassroots campaign has knocked on thousands of doors and hosted community events in neighborhoods across District 76. If elected, Martinez-Rutherford would make history as Wisconsin’s first transgender state legislator.

The 76th Assembly District includes downtown Madison, Maple Bluff, and neighborhoods on the east and north side. For more information about Dina Nina’s campaign, visit VoteDinaNina.com.
