La Crosse, WI (July 21, 2026) – Today, Hmong Organizing & Mobilizing for Empowerment (HOME) announced their endorsement of Yee Leng Xiong for State Treasurer. Xiong’s nonprofit service and longstanding advocacy for Hmong Wisconsinites’ equity, stability and self-determination are key in endorsements. The organization believes that Xiong will continue to do impactful advocacy for Hmong Wisconsinites if elected.

HOME identified three priority issues for Hmong Wisconsinites: Medicare/Medicaid accessibility; affordability; and anti-immigration policies and rhetoric. Although the Office of the State Treasurer does not write laws, it controls how billions of public dollars are managed. Xiong plans to increase access to these dollars to offset unaffordability for working class families, many of which of are Hmong Wisconsinites. In Xiong’s words, he intends to “use the Treasurer’s office to be a strong public advocate for protecting and expanding healthcare and safety‑net programs that our elders, disabled community members, and working families depend on.”

Because of his history of nonprofit service, Xiong understands that creating access requires a multi-prong approach. He highlights his plan for aggressive bilingual outreach to minoritized and working-class communities to reclaim unclaimed property, connecting this to financial education that fits the realities of communities, and using the states’ financial tools to push for investments in affordable housing, small business development and community infrastructure in places that have historically been excluded. In his endorsement materials, Xiong writes, “in this campaign, I’m not starting from scratch with the Hmong community, I’m building on a lifelong commitment and deep relationships that have been formed over many years of working side-by-side with our people.” HOME believes this relationship is key to effective advocacy at the state level.

Dr. Xong Xiong, HOME’s Executive Director, expands on the significance of Xiong’s race: “Hmong Wisconsinites have been a part of Wisconsin’s history for more than 50 years. If elected, Yee Leng will be the first Hmong American elected to state office in WI. HOME is excited and proud to endorse Yee Leng. Due to his years of advocacy, instead of holding another listening session to ‘understand’ our issues and concerns, he instinctively knows how to connect the roles and responsibilities of the Office of State Treasurer to Hmong Wisconsinites.”

HOME encourages Hmong Wisconsinites to support Xiong’s campaign by getting involved with local organizing, talking with Wisconsin friends and family about his platform, and voting for him in the Democratic primary on August 11th.
