MADISON, Wis. — SEIU Wisconsin, Progressives for Democracy in America and Young Progressive Democrats of America today endorsed Francesca Hong for governor, adding the support of healthcare and service workers, young organizers and grassroots progressives to Hong’s people-powered campaign.

SEIU Wisconsin’s member leaders voted overwhelmingly to endorse Hong after months of directly engaging with the candidates. The union, which represents more than 7,000 hospital, nursing home, home care and property service workers, highlighted Hong’s commitments to repeal Act 10 and right-to-work, raise the minimum wage to $20, expand BadgerCare and deliver universal childcare.

PDA’s endorsement was also decided from the grassroots up. Hong earned nearly 90 percent of the vote in the organization’s statewide Wisconsin straw poll, followed by unanimous support from its national elections committee. PDA and YPDA members will make calls and knock on doors across Wisconsin through the August 11 primary.

“I’m honored to have the support of SEIU Wisconsin, PDA and YPDA. These organizations understand that lasting change is built by workers, young people and grassroots organizers,” Hong said. “Together, we’re going to take on corporate power, raise wages, restore workers’ rights and make life affordable for working people across Wisconsin.”
