Newest endorsement marks the 16th labor organization to back her campaign
 

EAU CLAIRE, Wisc. — Today, United Steelworkers District 7 is announcing their support for Rebecca Cooke, candidate for Congress in Wisconsin’s Third Congressional District running on fighting for working families and against welfare for billionaires and monopolies.

“Rebecca Cooke has stood with labor and shown she understands what working families in western Wisconsin need, and in Congress she’ll bring that same commitment to Washington,” said Michael Millsap, District 7 Director of the United Steelworkers Union. “She’s not beholden to corporate PACs or special interests — she’s beholden to the working families of West Central Wisconsin. That’s why we are proud to stand with Rebecca Cooke, because we need someone in Congress who will create jobs instead of cutting deals for billionaires and the powerful.”

“I’m proud to earn the endorsement of the United Steelworkers and the hardworking men and women they represent,” said Rebecca Cooke. “This campaign is about building a big tent of Wisconsinites who want leaders that will fight for good union jobs, fair wages, and lower health care costs. People who work hard and play by the rules deserve a better future for their families. Steelworkers built the backbone of this country, and in Congress, I’ll always have their backs.”

This latest endorsement adds strength to Rebecca’s labor backing, bringing her total number of union endorsements to 16 across the state. Rebecca is also endorsed by the WI AFL-CIO, Wisconsin Education Association Council, American Postal Workers Union of Wisconsin, Iron Workers Locals 383 and 512, the Communications Workers of America (CWA), the Wisconsin State Council of Machinists, AFSCME, International Union of Painters and Allied Trades District Councils 7 & 82, Office and Professional Employees International Union, Sheet Metal, Air, Rail, and Transportation (SMART) Union, UFCW Local 1473, Wisconsin Laborers’ District Council, SEIU Wisconsin and IBEW State Conference. She’s also garnered the support of a broad coalition of farmers, small business owners, educators and healthcare workers across west central Wisconsin.

ABOUT REBECCA COOKE

Rebecca Cooke is a waitress, small business owner, and nonprofit leader who has focused her career on building community and serving others. Born and raised on an Eau Claire dairy farm and appointed by Governor Tony Evers to the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation, Rebecca understands the challenges facing the small towns and rural communities for which she has fiercely advocated throughout her life. 

A sixth-generation Wisconsinite, Cooke comes from a long tradition of dairy farming and knows too well the challenges facing farming families. Like a lot of Wisconsin farmers, her family had to sell their cows because of the price of milk and competition with larger dairies. After working her way through college, Cooke moved home to open her own small business and nonprofit that provides start-up capital and hands-on education for women-owned businesses throughout 18 counties in northwestern Wisconsin. In addition, she now runs a hospitality business and waitresses three nights a week.
