Following Tuesday’s statewide primary election in Wisconsin, Evergreen Action Midwest Advocate Lauren Reeg released the following statement:

“David Crowley’s win in the gubernatorial primary shows that Wisconsin voters are ready for a governor who puts affordability and working families at the center of the agenda—and that has to include lowering energy costs. That means holding monopoly utilities accountable for the costs they put on families and small businesses, making sure data centers pay their fair share instead of shifting costs onto existing customers, and investing in clean energy that strengthens the grid while keeping bills affordable.

“Wisconsinites are watching their utility bills climb while the corporations raising them report record profits. Tom Tiffany’s platform would only widen that gap, leaning further into expensive fossil fuel generation, opposing renewable energy development, and letting data centers keep high-cost, polluting gas plants online—leaving monopoly utilities free to keep raising rates unchecked while existing customers absorb the cost of new demand. 

“Crowley has made affordability a central focus of his campaign. Heading into November, Wisconsin voters will have a clear choice over who will lower costs, hold powerful utilities accountable, and build an energy system that works for working families instead of corporate interests.”
