MILWAUKEE_More than 3,900 students are moving into University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee residence halls starting Thursday, Aug. 27, before the start of the 2026-27 school year.

UWM Chancellor Thomas Gibson will be helping out and greeting students and families from 8:30 to 10 a.m. at Sandburg Hall, 3400 N. Maryland Ave.

Gibson will be available for interviews during that time, along with UWM University Housing Director Arcetta Clay Jones and Luke Hams, associate director of residence life for University Housing.

Media photographers and videographers are welcome to take photos and shoot footage in the garage, lobby and other common spaces at Sandburg during that time. Photos and video can be shot in student rooms only by invitation from students occupying those rooms.

Media are asked to park on streets a short distance from Sandburg Hall so they do not interfere with the drop-off process. Media interested in covering move-in day are asked to RSVP via email to media-services-team@uwm.edu.

Move-in will be staggered over three days at Sandburg to allow for a smooth process. Move-in at the other UWM residence halls – Cambridge Commons, RiverView and Kenilworth Square Apartments – takes place between Aug. 27 and Sept. 1, with arrival times similarly spread out to avoid overcrowding in parking garages and elevators.

Classes begin on Wednesday, Sept. 2.
