Eau Claire, Wis. – This morning, State Senate candidate Michele Magadance Skinner and Senator Jesse James held a press conference outside the former HSHS Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire where they laid out exactly what happened when the Chippewa Valley lost Sacred Heart and Saint Joseph Hospitals.
“One of the most devastating things that happened in my four year-tenure as State Senator was the closing of these hospitals in our Chippewa Valley,” said Senator Jesse James. “When we introduced the bill, Jeff Smith voted no. When we did the veto override, Jeff Smith voted no. When we tried to schedule the bill for the floor in Senate Org, Jeff Smith voted no [twice]. Jeff Smith voted no four times. The Assistant Minority Leader has power, and with the Governor, he has a voice. I’m putting all of my backing behind Michele Magadance Skinner. We need somebody who will work with people…she knows how to communicate and get things done. Just like she’s done with Lake Altoona. Michele knows how to get things done…and make the Chippewa Valley better.”
“Jeff Smith was absent during the crisis of the closing of the Sacred Heart Hospital,” said Skinner. “[Senator James] Just told you how [Jeff Smith] voted no, no, no, no. Four times against bringing back monies to this area to specifically help and produce emergency-room-care for our community, which was in crisis. The Chippewa Valley needs a senator who has your back every day… not no, no, no, no; but yes, yes, yes, yes.”
