MADISON, WI — Republican nominee for governor Tom Tiffany is putting Wisconsin families first with a bold eight-point affordability agenda to lower taxes, reduce everyday expenses and let hardworking Wisconsinites keep more of their own money.

Tiffany’s plan would freeze property taxes, deliver a 10% income tax cut for working families earning less than $150,000, eliminate state taxes on tips and overtime, return Wisconsin’s budget surplus to taxpayers, reduce utility costs, prevent sales tax hikes, lower gas prices and create good-paying jobs.

The contrast could not be clearer. While Democrat David Crowley raised Milwaukee County’s sales tax by 80%, raised property taxes five times and voted against middle-class tax relief, Tom Tiffany has a proven record of putting more money back in people’s pockets.

Tiffany drew a clear contrast with Crowley’s tax-hiking record:

“He has consistently raised taxes on the people of Milwaukee County. Do we have any reason to believe that he’ll do anything different as the governor of Wisconsin? His history tells you what he’s going to do. He’s going to raise taxes, I’m going to cut taxes.”

Tiffany’s agenda recognizes that a government surplus belongs to the taxpayers who earned it, not politicians looking for new ways to spend it.

“A government surplus is your money. It means government overtaxed you in the first place. I don’t believe the first question in Madison should be: How can we spend it? The first question should be: How do we get it back to you, the taxpayers?”

“If you’re a young couple buying your first home, you should be able to plan for the future without wondering how much higher the property tax bill will be next year. If you’re a senior on a fixed income, you shouldn’t have to wonder whether rising property taxes are going to force you out of your home.”

Wisconsin families cannot afford another tax-and-spend Democrat in Madison. Tom Tiffany understands that every dollar government takes is a dollar families cannot use for groceries, utility bills, housing or their children’s futures.
