Kenosha, WI — More than 23,900 Wisconsinites have lost food assistance as a result of devastating SNAP cuts backed by Rep. Bryan Steil, including 6300 of his own constituents.
According to the CBPP SNAP Tracker, SNAP participation in Wisconsin dropped by 23,919 people between July 2025 and April 2026.
New congressional district-level data from Co-Equal show SNAP participation in Rep. Steil’s district dropped by 6300 people between January 2025 and April 2026.
“Rep. Bryan Steil voted for the devastating SNAP cuts in Donald Trump’s ‘One Big Beautiful Bill,’ and families across his district now pay the price,” said Meghan Roh, spokesperson for Americans for Healthy Families Wisconsin. “His vote takes food assistance from working families, children, and people with disabilities who struggle to put food on the table. Rep. Steil chose these cuts. His constituents suffer the consequences.”

On July 3, 2025, Rep. Bryan Steil voted for Donald Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill,” H.R. 1, which enacted the largest SNAP cuts in the program’s history — nearly $187 billion through 2034 — and will cause millions of Americans to lose some or all of their food assistance.
Despite that decline, SNAP remains a critical lifeline across Wisconsin’s 1st Congressional District. According to district-level SNAP data, 45,900 households relied on SNAP to help put food on the table as of April 2026. Among households in the district receiving SNAP:
- 83% have at least one working family member;
- 50% include someone with a disability;
- 44% include a child under 18; and
- 33% live below the poverty line.
