Emily Braun, a teacher at Madison Metropolitan School District, has achieved National Board Certification, the highest accomplishment in the teaching profession.
“The Wisconsin Education Association Council celebrates Wisconsin’s newest group of National Board Certified Teachers,” said teacher Peggy Wirtz-Olsen, president of the state’s largest union of educators. “These excellent teachers voluntarily challenged themselves, reflecting on their professional practice and confirming they are teaching to the highest standards. WEAC is proud to support teachers pursuing National Board Certification by providing mentors, workshops and other resources because research shows these top-notch teachers improve student learning.”
Schools with National Board-Certified Teachers (NBCTs) are characterized by better teacher morale, higher retention and increased community and parent satisfaction. The data further demonstrates NBCTs make a direct impact on student learning. Studies have found that the positive impact of having a board-certified teacher is even greater for low-income students and students of color.
