MILWAUKEE — Mark Stein, author of the bestselling book “How the States Got Their Shapes,” will be the featured guest for an “On the Issues” conversation with Derek Mosley, director of the Law School’s Lubar Center for Public Policy Research and Civic Education, to be held at Marquette University Law School’s Eckstein Hall at 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 2.

Stein will visit the Lubar Center for a conversation about how the American states ended up looking like they do. Surprising stories involving politics, law, and geography—from power struggles and Supreme Court decisions, to rivers, railroads, and regional rivalries—have combined to draw the lines that define the nation today.

Through public programming such as the Marquette Law School Poll, “On the Issues” conversations with newsmakers, public lectures by leading scholars, conferences on issues of public significance, and the work of its Lubar Center, Marquette Law School seeks to advance civil discourse about law and public policy matters.
