GREENDALE, Wis. — Today, the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) named Ben Brist in Assembly District 61 a must-win Target Race for Democrats in the Wisconsin Assembly.
Flipping the Wisconsin Assembly blue is a top priority for the DLCC, and Ben Brist’s race is crucial to protecting progress and ensuring the Democratic agenda moves forward. The DLCC is the official Democratic Party committee charged with identifying the best opportunities to build Democratic power, and its Target Race program highlights exciting and groundbreaking candidates in competitive and consequential races across the country. The DLCC is on offense this year and already working to deliver resources and infrastructure across the country after launching its most expansive target map to date across 42 chambers in 27 states.

“Wisconsin Democrats are closer to an Assembly majority than we’ve been in more than a decade, and the 61st is one of the seats that decides it. We’re thrilled that the DLCC sees the potential in our race and can help us talk to even more voters about what they’re actually feeling: property taxes going up, schools going to referendum year after year, and health care they can’t afford. That’s what this campaign has been about since day one.”
Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee President Heather Williams issued the following statement:
“After over a decade of Republican gerrymandered control, 2026 is a historic opportunity to flip the Wisconsin legislature from red to blue. Flipping the legislature is crucial in 2026 – the direction of the state depends on it. Every single race counts for building durable Democratic power, and the DLCC is proud to uplift Ben Brist in this must-win race.”
