SOUTHWEST WISCONSIN — The Coalition Against MariBel 765, Inc. (CAM 765) calls on all candidates to join the growing bipartisan chorus opposing the proposed 765 kV MariBell transmission line project in Wisconsin that would build 765 kV lines – the largest in Wisconsin’s history – straight through the heart of Wisconsin’s driftless area in Vernon and Crawford Counties.

At a recent event held at the Retreat Sportsman’s Club in De Soto featured a Bipartisan panel of elected leaders all speaking out in unison on the same topic: the 765 kV lines – which could tower as much as 20 stories high – should not be built straight through the heart of Wisconsin’s driftless area. In a heartwarming display of bipartisan unity, United States Congressman Derrick Van Orden, State Senator Brad Pfaff, State Rep. Tara Johnson, State Rep. Travis Tranel, Third Party Gubernatorial Candidate David King, and Viroqua Mayor Krista Browne all took to the stage together to deliver a clear message: The 765 kV lines should not be constructed through Vernon and Crawford Counties, the Heart of Wisconsin’s Driftless, and certainly not without local approval.

There is plenty of local condemnation for the MariBell 765 kV transmission line project. In front of a packed room at the Retreat Sportsman’s Club, addressing the question of whether the 765 kV lines should be built through the heart of the driftless, Van Orden stated: “We live in the Coulee Region … I hope I’ve been crystal clear with everybody here. I do not want to see these things around, and honest to goodness the question needs to be answered: What is the real technical need for this? Is this needed now? Is it needed within the next generation?” The crowd burst out saying “No! no! no!” to which Congressman Van Orden followed up: “Then we need to look at this data and see what the hell are we doing – that’s what needs to happen!” A video of the event at the Retreat Sportsman’s Club in De Soto is available here:
