To invest in Wisconsin’s transportation system, Governor Evers recently signed a $33 million contract to reconstruct US 51 between Exchange Street and Larson Beach Road in McFarland, Dane County. Preliminary work is scheduled to begin September 21, 2026.
R.G. Huston Company is the prime contractor for the project. The project is designed to improve the pavement and intersections along US 51 between Exchange Street and Larson Beach Road. Improvements will include replacement of the Yahara River bridge, addition of a two-way left turn lane between Yahara Drive and Burma Road and reconstruction of the pavement.
Starting December 1, 2026, through fall 2027, US 51 will be closed and detoured utilizing US 18 and I-39/90.
Project completion is scheduled for July 2028. The schedule is dependent on favorable weather conditions and construction progress.
