KEWAUNEE, Wis. – Today, Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley and Senator Tammy Baldwin toured Clark Riemer’s fourth-generation family farm in Kewaunee. They discussed how Trump’s war in Iran, which MAGA Congressman Tom Tiffany has voted to continue five times, is causing record high gas and diesel prices that are cutting into the very slim margins farmers like Mr. Riemer depends on.
Crowley laid out his plan to lower prices at the pump and to promise that, as governor, he will stand up for Wisconsin farmers and working families facing an affordability crisis.
“I heard it here today: Wisconsin farmers are struggling to pay for the diesel fuel they need to run their farms and businesses because of MAGA Congressman Tom Tiffany’s five votes to keep the war in Iran going,” said Crowley. “To deliver relief to the farmers, families, manufacturers, and truck drivers that are hurting because of MAGA Congressman Tom Tiffany and Donald Trump, I will repeal a depression era law that is driving up gas costs. I’m running for governor to make life more affordable for all Wisconsinites, Congressman Tiffany is running to do whatever Trump tells him.
Clark Riemer, who hopes to pass the farm on to his son, described what the price spike has meant for his operation.
“I’m paying more than ever to fill up on diesel; I don’t know how any family farm can afford these costs and hope to make any sort of profit,” said Riemer. “I don’t want a handout. I want to be able to sell my crops without paying the steep price I’m now facing thanks to Congressman Tom Tiffany’s votes to keep Trump’s war with Iran going. That’s why I’m supporting David Crowley: he’s the only one in this race we can trust to lower prices and give us the relief that I and so many others need.”
Senator Baldwin emphasized the toll of Tiffany’s record on Wisconsin agriculture.
“It’s been a hard year for farmers struggling to sell their crops and just break even. From Donald Trump and Congressman Tom Tiffany’s war with Iran to their endless tariff taxes, the cost of everything from fertilizer to gas and diesel is not something our farmers or any working Wisconsinites can afford right now,” said Baldwin. “If we elect David Crowley as our next governor, I know he will always do what’s best for our farmers, working families, manufacturers, and truck drivers and not sell them out to Donald Trump the way Congressman Tiffany has.”
Crowley’s Plan to Lower Prices at the Pump:
- Repeal the minimum markup law on gas, a Depression-era law that would currently lower prices by 40 cents per gallon of gas and over 56 cents per gallon of diesel. Tiffany’s Record of Raising Costs on Wisconsin Farmers:
- Tiffany has voted five times to keep the war in Iran going, helping drive diesel and gas prices higher.
- Earlier this year, Tiffany bragged that 2026 was “on track to be the cheapest year for gas since 2020.” Instead, Wisconsin diesel prices hit a record $6.11, and diesel has risen nearly 60 percent in the past 12 months.
- Tiffany has voted with Donald Trump 100% of the time, including on tariff taxes that have endangered Wisconsin’s relationship with its number one trading partner. A new report shows Trump and Tiffany’s tariffs will cost $2,179 per Wisconsin household.
