Wisconsin Literacy will honor Ann Beeson with its Champion of Literacy Lifetime Achievement Award and Tori Rader with its Founder’s Award, recognizing two individuals whose careers have helped strengthen adult literacy and expand educational opportunity.
Beeson, now retired, spent more than 24 years supporting adult education and literacy programs through her work with New Readers Press. The Champion of Literacy Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes her dedicated service to Wisconsin Literacy’s members, steadfast support of its mission, and boundless energy in uplifting lives through adult education.
Rader, former executive director of Literacy Green Bay, helped lay the foundation for Wisconsin Literacy by proposing a statewide coalition of literacy organizations. Her vision brought programs together around a shared commitment to adult learners and continues to shape Wisconsin Literacy’s work today. The Founder’s Award recognizes her exceptional leadership, steadfast advocacy, and enduring contributions to advancing adult literacy and increasing opportunity throughout Wisconsin.
Rader will receive her award on Thursday, September 24, at Literacy Green Bay’s Annual Awards & Appreciation Breakfast. Her contributions will also be celebrated at Wisconsin Literacy’s Gathering of Hope on October 8, where Beeson will receive her award.
“Ann and Tori have dedicated their careers to helping adults access education and achieve goals,” said Jake Gorges, executive director of Wisconsin Literacy. “Their work has strengthened the organizations that serve adult learners, and we’re proud to honor the lasting difference they have made.”
Gathering of Hope brings together educators, literacy advocates, community partners, and supporters to celebrate how literacy changes lives and creates stronger futures for adults and families across Wisconsin. Guests will hear firsthand stories of perseverance and achievement while supporting the programs and partnerships that make those opportunities possible.
The event will take place Thursday, October 8, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the WYSO Center for Music, 1118 E. Washington Ave. in Madison. Hors d’oeuvres and beverages will be provided. Tickets and additional information are available at wisconsinliteracy.org/news-events/gathering-of-hope.html.
