MADISON, Wis. — Today, the Cook Political Report moved its rating of Wisconsin’s First Congressional District closer to Democrats. This rating shift is the latest indication that Republicans are worried about losing this district. In recent weeks, Mitchell Berman was added to the DCCC’s highly competitive ‘Red to Blue’ list and endorsed by the Blue Dog Coalition, and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that a Donald Trump-affiliated super PAC is dumping money into Bryan Steil’s re-election campaign—out-pacing their spending in races once thought to be far more competitive.
“Today’s ratings shift from the Cook Political Report shows what Wisconsinites in the First Congressional District have long believed to be true: Bryan Steil is beatable, and this seat is not guaranteed for Republicans,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin spokesperson Rachel La Due. “For too long, Bryan Steil has enabled corruption in D.C. that allows Donald Trump and Steil’s billionaire donors to enrich themselves at the expense of working people. Voters are fed up with Steil greenlighting corruption and raising their costs every chance he gets, and are ready to send him packing.”
