NORTHERN WI. This week Fred Clark, candidate for Wisconsin’s 7th congressional district, unveiled his vision for economic revitalization in northern Wisconsin.  Clark’s plan, titled The New Northwoods, is rooted in the principles of Fairness, Responsibility, and Innovation.

“So many communities here have been struggling as a result of global trends that have closed many of our key employers in forest products, manufacturing, and farming. And as a result of those lost jobs, so many more people today are struggling to make ends meet, no matter how hard they work,” Clark said. “It’s long past time for a new set of rules that work for everybody.”

“If we don’t restore economic fairness, we cannot restore affordability for working families,” Clark added. “This congress has failed at every turn to level the playing field of economic fairness for small businesses, family farms, and wage earners in favor of handing out tax cuts and kickbacks for corporations and billionaires.”

Clark also noted that the current Congress has contributed to the current affordability crisis. “This Congress has made devastating cuts to healthcare and food assistance to fund more tax cuts for billionaires and pay for ballrooms nobody wanted.”

Clark added, “The loss of pulp and paper mills in the last 20 years throughout the north has hurt wage earners and their families. It’s more clear than ever today that adapting to a new future requires re-imagining our economy.”

“I’ve learned first hand in the last year that restoring economic vitality for northern Wisconsin will require innovation and new investment.” Clark said. “In this country we know how to seize opportunities and do big things. And with the right investments in research, commercializing new technologies, and support for businesses, we can bring a new economic Renaissance to northern Wisconsin,” he concluded.

But there is no path to prosperity without a Congress that is willing to do its job.

“It’s time for a new majority in Congress who will prioritize economic fairness for all, responsible government, and innovation in a new economy,” Clark said.
