A new ad from U.S. Rep. Bryan Steil calls Dem challenger Mitchell Berman “crazy” and targets him for his role in a 2023 school lockdown incident.

AdImpact has tracked some $71,266 in reservations for the ad, which first aired Friday, of which $61,652 has gone toward airtime in the Milwaukee broadcast market.

“Radical activist Mitchell Berman went to a local school and confronted school officials,” the narrator of the 15-second spot opens. “With children inside, he was escorted out. His actions put the school in lockdown.

“Mitchell Berman: too radical, too crazy,” it concludes.

The ad references a 2023 incident where Raymond School went into a “soft lockdown” due to a “possible disruption.”

Berman, an emergency room nurse, told news outlets at the time that he was escorted from the school building and told it was going into lockdown after he went to the school office to ask for school board documents he’d sought via open records request.

A crypto-backed PAC previously invoked the incident in an ad targeting Berman earlier this month.
