MILWAUKEE — Chairman of the Committee on Finance Steve F. Taylor today outlined the upcoming timeline for the County Board’s review of the 2027 Recommended Budget, emphasizing a straightforward, fact-based process focused on understanding the administration’s requests and each department’s response.

The Committee on Finance will begin its review on Monday, October 12, with a 9:00 a.m. presentation from the County Comptroller’s Research Services Division providing an overview of the Recommended Budget. Departmental briefings will begin that same day and continue throughout the week.

The Finance Committee will also hold a public hearing at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 14, providing an opportunity for residents to offer testimony on the proposed budget.

“I want this process to be very simple and straightforward,” said Finance Committee Chairman Steve F. Taylor. “Before we start making adjustments, we need to establish a clear baseline. Each department should be able to tell us: How much did the administration ask you to cut, how much did you actually cut and what programs or services did you cut? How much additional revenue did the administration ask you to generate, how much were you able to generate and how are you generating it? Once we have those answers, we can clearly see where we stand and determine how best to make any necessary adjustments.”

The Finance Committee will continue its departmental review on October 13, 14, and 15. An additional Finance Committee meeting is scheduled for October 16 at 9:00 a.m., if necessary.

Following the departmental briefings, the Finance Committee will consider County Supervisor budget amendments on October 22 and 23, beginning at 9:00 a.m. each day.

The County Board will then hold its Annual Public Hearing on the 2027 Recommended Budget on Monday, October 26, at 6:00 p.m. at the Milwaukee Art Museum. Residents are encouraged to provide direct feedback here before the budget process is completed.

The Finance Committee will meet again on Friday, October 30, at 9:00 a.m. to consider final budget amendments resulting from the public hearing.
