A new ad from U.S. Rep. Bryan Steil, R-Janesville, says Dem opponent Mitchell Berman wants to give free healthcare to migrants living in the country illegally and defund police.

Steil’s campaign has reserved $3.8 million in ad buys from Aug. 11 through Election Day, with $2.9 million of that targeting Milwaukee’s broadcast market, according to AdImpact.

In the 30-second spot, the narrator says Berman’s “socialist agenda goes too far,” adding that the Raymond emergency room nurse “supports giving free taxpayer-funded healthcare to illegal immigrants” and “defunding law enforcement efforts to deport illegal immigrants who commit violent crimes.”

“He’s for them,” the narrator says over footage of civil unrest. “Not for us.

“Mitchell Berman: too radical, too crazy, wrong for Wisconsin,” the narrator concludes.

Steil is shown briefly in the spot’s opening, flanked by two cops, during the required disclosure that the congressman approved the ad’s message.

It’s the second ad from the Steil campaign attacking Berman, following a Friday spot that highlighted Berman’s role in a 2023 school lockdown incident in Racine County.
