JANESVILLE, WI – Today, Wisconsin’s Operating Engineers Local 139 Union and The International Union of Painters and Allied Trades Council 7 endorsed Bryan Steil in his reelection campaign for Wisconsin’s First Congressional District. Adding to the Union endorsements Steil already received from the Kenosha and Milwaukee Police Unions.
“Wisconsin’s skilled tradesmen and women build the roads, bridges, homes, businesses and infrastructure that keeps our communities moving forward,” said Congressman Bryan Steil. “I am honored to have the support of the Operating Engineers and Painters. I will continue fighting for good-paying jobs, American manufacturing, and an economy that gives Wisconsin workers the opportunity to succeed.”
“Our union members build Wisconsin and understand the importance of getting the job done right, just as Representative Steil understands from his experience in the private sector,” said Terry McGowan, President and Business Manager of International Union of Operating Engineers Local 139. “We need elected leaders like Bryan Steil who have the courage to support policies like federal Davis Bacon prevailing wage protection and funding critical infrastructure that support Wisconsin’s working families.
“IUPAT District Council 7 stands with the people that stand with us regardless of political party; our members don’t support one party and neither does the organization. When our members put our faith in an elected representative it should never be taken for granted and Representative Steil recognizes that. Representative Steil championed legislation that will help working people, including the members of IUPAT District Council 7 save more for retirement.
Representative Steil also recognizes the importance of apprentice education and training and he is supporting legislation that acknowledges that union-provided apprenticeship education is the second largest educational and training institution in the country, providing millions of Americans with careers that will simultaneously last them a lifetime and also help build the United States.” said Jeff Mehrhoff, Business Manager/Secretary Treasurer IUPAT District Council 7
Steil has consistently worked to support Wisconsin’s skilled trades and the workers they represent. During his time in Congress, Steil has advocated for policies that expand infrastructure investment, strengthen American manufacturing, reduce unnecessary regulations and help create opportunities for workers across Southeast Wisconsin. This includes Steil’s work to eliminate taxes on overtime as part of the Working Families Tax Cuts.
Steil was also endorsed this week by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
