Racine, WI — Mitchell Berman announced today that he has earned the support of the Wisconsin Education Association Council/National Education Association in Wisconsin’s First Congressional District. In announcing the endorsement, educator-members cited Berman’s commitment to public education and working families.
“I’m honored to have earned the support of WEAC and NEA,” said Mitchell Berman. “Strong public schools mean strong opportunities for our kids, and public school educators do some of the toughest, most important work in our communities. In Congress, I’ll fight to fully fund our classrooms, support educators and staff, and make sure every kid gets a fair shot.”
In Congress, Berman will fight to fully fund our public schools, restore the value of Pell Grants, invest in technical and vocational training, and protect the Department of Education from efforts to dismantle it.
On October 3rd, Berman hosted an “Educators Roundtable” in Racine, WI moderated by WEAC Vice President Kim Schroeder. The roundtable featured seven local educators, elected officials, and educational leaders based in Southeast Wisconsin. The conversation focused on a shared agenda to increase public school funding particularly to support students’ nutrition and properly fund special education programs, protect the Department of Education, balance teacher workloads, and strengthen collective bargaining rights.
“Educators recommend Mitchell Berman because he is dedicated to students and public schools, like we are,” said Peggy Wirtz-Olsen, a Wisconsin teacher and WEAC President. “Mitchell Berman is a strong leader who deserves the recommendation of our union of educators. He shares our values, including hard work and the importance of a good education for every Wisconsin student – no exceptions.”

“Mitchell Berman will advance solutions for the affordability crisis facing the people in our District and across America,” said a teacher from Racine after a thorough screening process with a panel of area educators. “Rising costs are burdening our students’ families. We’re all struggling.”
“As our Representative in Congress, Mitchell Berman will be a voice at the federal level for funding preK-12 public schools and opposing the huge cuts to special education and student mental health help,” a retired Kenosha teacher said. “He will restore the value of Pell Grants to make attending technical college or university possible. And, as a nurse, he knows firsthand the importance of investing in technical and vocational training.”
