MADISON, Wis. — On Sunday, October 11 Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney is set to participate in a televised debate as part of his run for the statewide office of Attorney General. Toney, a Republican with a long history of aligning himself with fringe far-right policy positions, will likely try to deflect from his record as polling shows the MAGA agenda has grown increasingly unpopular in Wisconsin. A Better Wisconsin Together notes that Toney lost this same race in 2022, but has yet to become any less extreme on the issues Wisconsinites care about. Here’s what Wisconsinites should know: Toney has voiced support for enforcing an archaic 1800s abortion ban with no exceptions for rape or incest;Toney suggested changing state law to allow district attorneys like himself to cross county lines to prosecute abortion cases outside of their own jurisdiction;Toney has previously been endorsed by Wisconsin Family Action, Wisconsin Right to Life, Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, and National Right To Life. Notably, National Right To Life supports forcing children to carry pregnancies to term;Between Jan. 2025 and Sept. 2025, Toney has benefitted from $220,000 in MAGA billionaire campaign cash;Toney’s campaign accepted monetary support from convicted fraudster Mary Lavine, who pleaded guilty to and was convicted of conspiring to defraud the IRS.According to reports, the company co-owned by Lavine evaded paying more than $3 million in federal and state taxes. Lavine was sentenced to one year and one day in federal prison, fined $75,000, and ordered to pay $1,927,852.56 in restitution to the state Department of Revenue and $834,769.65 to the IRS;Toney has been District Attorney for 10 years, and while crime is down statewide, crime in Toney’s county is up 19%.
