In her latest ad, Dem 3rd CD candidate Rebecca Cooke decries GOP U.S. Rep. Derrick Van Orden’s use of AI on social media.

The 30 second spot is running in the La Crosse and Eau Claire media markets.

The ad begins with Cooke sitting at a table with a group of people.

“We need less AI slop from Van Orden. These deepfake AI videos he’s making about you are just ridiculous,” a man says to the group.

Legal counsel for Cooke sent a cease and desist letter back in September over an AI video posted to the congressman’s X account in August that appeared to show Cooke campaigning with former U.S. President Joe Biden.

“Look, I mean I’ve got thick skin. I can take a hit, but the thing is if he’s lying about me what else is he lying to you about? We need somebody that we can trust. He’s more focused on big tax cuts for data center companies than he is to protecting our communities,” Cooke says.

Van Orden defeated Cooke by 2.7 percentage points back in 2024.

“Van Orden’s not going to stand up to AI, he’s using it everyday,” a man says.
