(MADISON, Wis.) – The Wisconsin Professional Police Association (WPPA) released today its
biennial legislative report card ranking Wisconsin lawmakers for their support during the 2025–
26 legislative session, along with its endorsements for the upcoming November elections.
The rankings are the product of a cumulative scoring methodology that awards and deducts
points to lawmakers for their actions throughout the legislative process on bills for which the
WPPA registered its support or opposition with the Wisconsin Ethics Commission. The approach
recognizes lawmakers for the legislation and amendments they introduce, their committee
votes, and their votes on the floors of their respective chambers.
“Since 2006, the WPPA Legislative Report Card has provided an objective and nonpartisan
assessment of lawmakers’ records on the issues that matter to Wisconsin’s law enforcement
officers,” said WPPA Executive Director Jim Palmer. “It gives our members and the public a
valuable resource for evaluating the actions of their elected representatives, particularly as they
prepare to cast their ballots in the upcoming elections.”
In addition to ranking legislators in both the State Assembly and Senate, the WPPA announced
the lawmakers named to its 2026 “Law Enforcement Honor Roll” and awarded its “WPPA 2026
Legislators of the Year” distinction to State Senator Van Wanggaard and State Representative
Jerry O’Connor.
“These lawmakers have distinguished themselves through their demonstrated commitment to
the issues that affect Wisconsin’s law enforcement community,” Palmer said. “They and the other
legislators recognized on our Law Enforcement Honor Roll deserve recognition for their efforts
to support the officers who work every day to keep Wisconsin a safe place to live, work, and
raise a family.”
The WPPA also announced its endorsements for the November 3 general election. The
endorsements were determined by the organization’s Board of Directors, which is composed of
rank-and-file law enforcement officers from across the state, following a review of incumbent
lawmakers’ legislative records and candidates’ responses to a questionnaire.
The WPPA’s complete 2026 Legislative Report Card, Law Enforcement Honor Roll, Legislators of
the Year, and state election endorsements are available in the October 2026 edition of the
Wisconsin Police Journal, which can be viewed online here.
